Carpenter's Hall was built shortly after 1770 for the carpenter's guild of Philadelphia. Later it became famous as the meeting place of several conventions for the liberation of the colonies. The first Continental Congress met on Sept. 5, 1774 and prepared papers which are regarded by some as being the greatest in the world.
