A clinking toy piano becomes a concert grand as Schroeder makes Beethoven's music
come alive. The only Peanuts character that can play the piano, Schroeder is a musical
prodigy, and Beethoven is his idol. In fact, Schroeder's favorite day of the year is
December 16- Beethoven's birthday. When he's not playing the piano, Schroeder plays
catcher for the gang's baseball team. When the bases are loaded and nobody's out,
schroeder laments, "We live in difficult times." But all is not music and baseball for the young
pianist. He is continually pursued by an unwelcome admirer Lucy. While Schroeder
plays, Lucy casually leans against the piano, bats her eyelashes and smiles. Beethoven
sonatas don't impress Lucy. She argues, "Everyone talks about how great Beethoven was.
Beethoven wasn't so great! He never got his picture on bubble gum cards, did he?"
