WHILE Peppermint Patty lovingly calls him "Chuck," and Marcie politely refers to him as
"Charles," the rest of the gang knows him as good ol' Charlie Brown. A wishy-washy worrier
wearing a zigzag shirt, Charlie Brown agonizes over his fears and failures. He spends a lot of
time pondering the meaning of life. "Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, 'Is life a
multiple choice test or is it a true or false test?' Then a voice comes to me out of the dark and
says, 'We hate to tell you this, but life is a thousand word essay." When his friends call him
"blockhead," he takes it in stride, and life goes on. However, his good intentions often fade in
the face of harsh reality. In a Letter to the Editor, Charlie Brown writes, "I think it is time for all
of us to be more positive. We must stop allowing others to speak for us! Each of us needs to
stand up, and be counted!! Sincerely. . . Name Withheld."
