MARCIE'S a straight-A student who wears thick glasses, speaks French and loves going to
classical concerts and art museums. She would rather sit under a tree and read Ivanhoe than
play baseball, but is always willing to fill in when the gang needs another player. When she
attended summer camp, she met Peppermint Patty, whom Marcie refers to as "Sir," out of
respect and admiration. During summer vacation, Marcie takes violin lessons, Spanish
lessons and reads Don Quixote. Although Marcie's not good at sports, Peppermint Patty
enlists her to play football. But Marcie's kindness can be excessive, "Okay, ball, before I kick
you, I want to apologize. I want you to know there's nothing personal in this, that I intend you
no harm, that I hope this kick does you no injury, and that ..." Peppermint Patty yells, "KICK
THE BALL, MARCIE!!" Marcie replies, "Patience, Sir! These are things which must be said."
