Additional Details:
The First National Bank of Vandalia was founded in 1895 and has occupied the present building since 1914. It serves 3440 checking account customers, 1655 savings customers, 3000 loan customers, 1000 safe deposit customers in addition to many other services. It was the first bank in this area to open a personal loan and automobile loan department and to enter the field of agricultural credit aggressively. Its services are as modern as its banking quarters, which include air conditioning, a dining room and kitchen. The bank encourages thrift by paying liberal, higher than average interest rates on savings and time deposits. The maximum rate is now 2%. Dieckmann Hotel is located in The First National Bank Building. It has long been recognized as one of the finer hotels of South Central Illinois. Rooms are large, air cooled and completely modern. Abraham Lincoln attended the legislature at Vandalia (the first state capitol of Illinois), riding horseback from his home to attend the sessions.
