Lighted by flood lights 365 nights of the year. Making an unsurpassed monument of beauty and service. This monument is one of the distinctive landmarks in Washington Park Cemetery. It was built in 1928 and dedicated to departed Masons and Eastern Stars. This massive structure has a shock-proof foundation, 3 1/2 feet in depth. The 3 steps that form the base of the monument proper are 28 ft. square. The main shaft is 39 1/2 ft. in height and weights 40 tons. The cube on which rests the main shaft is 3 ft. high and weighs 3 tons. The block base is 4 1/2 ft. in height, weighs 8 tons. The base proper weighs 20 tons. The statue of Martha and the Broken Column is about 10 ft. high.
