This Monument is one of the distinctive land-
marks in Washington Park Cemetery. It was built
in 1928 and dedicated to departed Masons and
Eastern Stars.
This massive structure has a shock-proof founda-
tion, 31/2 feet in depth. The 3 steps that form
the base of the monument proper are 28 ft. square.
The main shaft is 3972 ft. in height and weighs
40 tons. The cube on which rests the main shaft
is 3 ft. high and weighs 3 tons. The block base
is 42 ft. in height, weighs 8 tons. The base
proper weighs 20 tons. The statue of Martha and
the Broken Column is about 10 ft. high.
