THE FOOD VALUE OF SHREDDED WHEAT
HE whole wheat is without doubt the most perfect food
given to man. It contains all the elements necessary to
build and nourish the human body.
But the whole wheat must be prepared in a digestible
form. Shredded Wheat is made by a process which insures
the digestibility of the whole wheat. It is the whole wheat
cleaned, steam-cooked, drawn into porus filmy shreds, formed
into biscuits and baked in large coal ovens.
In making Shredded Wheat Biscuit the bran or outer
coat of the wheat berry is retained. This performs the useful
function of stimulating peristalsis (bowel exercise), thereby keeping
the intestinal tract clean and healthy. The crispness of the shreds of
baked whole wheat induces thorough masti-
cation, thus promoting a thorough
mixing with saliva which prepares the
food for digestion. This thorough
mastication also develops sound teeth
and healthy gums.
