SANCTUARY
HIS Bird Fountain is the gift of more than 2,000
members and friends of the National Association
of Audubon Societies for the Protection of Wild Birds
and Animals as a memorial to Theodore Roosevelt.
Back of the Fountain is the Roosevelt Bird Sanctuary,
the land of which was given to the Association by W.
Emlen and Christine G. Roosevelt.
This area is not only a sanctuary for wild birds
but also contains practical demonstrations of the best
methods of attracting birds by means of feeding de-
vices, bird baths, nesting boxes, shrubbery for produc-
ing bird food, the value of open places, thickets and
of properly constructed brush and vine shelters.
One hundred and twenty-five species of birds have
been found within its boundaries.
Admission to the Sanctuary is one of the privileges
of members of the National Association of Audubon
Societies who also receive the magazine Bird-Lore and
other publications as they appear.
Certificates of membership may be had at the res-
idence of Dr. Eugene Swope adjoining the Fountain,
or from Dr. Robert Cushman Murphy, Treasurer,
1974 Broadway, New York City.
Sustaining Membership $5., annual fee.
Life Membership $100.
