Flanders "20" is the lowest priced car that
has ever been entrusted with the arduous task
of laying out the Glidden Tour route.
The route of the 1911 Glidden Tour was one
of the longest and by far the most difficult
ever selected. It was from New York City to
Jacksonville, Fla., over roads that ranged all
the way from excellent to-well, awful. The
slippery red clay of the Carolinas was only
surpassed in cussedness by the deep, shifting
sands of Florida. In the tour several of
America's highest priced cars ignominiously
succumbed to the hardships of the roads-
roads which, bad at their best, were indescrib-
ably bad on account of the torrential rains
which fell during the tour.
In laying out the route, the Flanders "20"
Pathfinder performed such wonderful work
that the official pilot, Mr. A. L. Westgard,
said "No car at any price and of any power
I could have done better." And in the contest
that followed, Flanders "20" (the same car
that laid out the route and driven by the same
man-Soules) was one of the few cars to finish
with a perfect score.
