Additional Details:
Located 37 miles north of Fort Worth and 42 miles northwest of Dallas, County seat of Denton County, was named after John B. Denton, a lawyer-and ranger captain, who was killed by the Indians in 1841. His remains now rest beneath the southeast corner of the courthouse lawn. The county seat was moved here in 1857 and the city received its first charter in 1866.
