of General Lee during the Civil War, and this was
the home to which he returned after the surrender
the stepping stone on the curb in front of the house
is said to be the identical one upon which he dis-
mounted on that occasion, is now the property of
the Virginia Historical Society, and contains many
rare manuscripts, books, portraits and relics of
great historical value and interest. Here is to be
seen the table upon which Gen. Mason wrote the
Bill of Rights.
