GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE,opened to traffic
October 25, 1931, spans the Hudson River between the
Palisades of New Jersey and Washington Heights, New
York City. It is a steel suspension bridge, with a roadway
3,500 feet long between towers 635 feet high, the roadway
being 250 feet above water and held by four 3-foot ar Y
cables. The cost of the bridge is $60,000,000, and it was JUN 24,
financed and built by the Port of New York Authority.
