The Shambles. This is a narrow, winding lane leading
from the Pavement, one of the many narrow but
frequented streets of York. In the Shambles the upper
stories of the old houses approach as if desirous to kiss
each other, and tiny shops overflow with a surplus of
shabby customers and vociferous dealers.
