The Yosemite Valley is a mighty canyon
in the Sierra, seven miles long and a half
mile wide, with perpendicular walls of granite.
The floor of the valley is a beautiful meadow,
through which flows the sparkling Merced
River. Into the valley falls the loftiest cata-
ract in the world, Yosemite Falls, 2,425 feet.
Bridal Veil Fall, noted for its beauty, has a
sheer drop of 620 feet. Nevada Fall, 594
feet and Vernal, a solid sheet of crystal wa-
ter 80 feet wide at the crest, drops 317 feet.
With its vivid green setting glistening in
perpetual spray, it is considered California's
most beautiful cataract.
