KNIGHTS FERRY, CALIFORNIA
In 1848 this was the first stop in the Mother Lode Country.
The miners came by boat to Stockton, then overland by
stage or on foot to Knights Ferry. The town was named
for Captain Knight who came through with General
Fremont. The captain liked the location so well that he
stayed and established a trading post.
