Located on famous Baker Hill, on US 68
and 31-W, site of a large fort built by the Con-
federates in 1861. The Union Army reached
Baker Hill February 13, 1862, and despite de-
struction of foot and railroad bridges, held the
fort and the town, from which the Southern
troops had withdrawn. The largest motel in
