NATIONAL PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME
Canton, Ohio
This shrine is the brainchild of sports writer Germane Swan-
son and was financed with funds contributed by fans of
the great game across the nation. It is located in the
Canton Park System on 14 wooded acres in the N. W.
section of the city next to Canton Expressway (Rt. 77).
It is a two building complex which features a 52 foot
dome - a stylized architectural impression of a football.
The dramatic mural sculptured in copper over the entrance
was hand-hammered by Dale Drulis and weighs over 800
lbs. While Latrobe, Pa. is considered the real home of
Professional Football, Canton, Ohio is where the National
Football League was founded in 1920. In addition, the
first football championships were decided here. It is also
where Jim Thorpe had first stirred national interest in the
great game.
