(1873-1926) Studied medicine at the universities of Leipzig and München, before becoming a tenor with the Dresden Court Opera in 1903. He premiered as Lohengrin in Wagner's "Lohengrin". An eye complaint led to the loss of most of his sight, and he gave up his singing career, and became active in medicine again.
