THE S.S. WILFRED SYKES
Launched in June, 1949, the Flagship of the Inland
Steel Co. Fleet is one of the largest, and most effi-
cient ore carriers on the Lakes. With an overall
length of 678 ft., the ship carries 20,000 tons each
trip at a speed of 16 miles per hour. Is equipped
with the latest electronic devices for navigation and
communication. The ship was named in honor of
the man who was President of the Inland Steel from
1941 to 1949. It's a real thrill to see this majestic
ship glide gracefully through the waters of the Great
Lakes surrounding Michigan..
