One of the incidents to be remembered on the
transcontinental journey is the crossing of Raton
Pass, between Trinidad, Colorado, and Raton, New
Mexico. The train is drawn by two, and sometimes
three engines, to the mouth of Raton Tunnel at the
summit of the Pass, more than seven thousand feet
above sea level. The vistas of mountain scenery
on either side lend an unusual interest to crossing
this range of the Rocky Mountains.
