The largest Chinese settlement
in the United States is in San
Francisco. The community vies
with China itself in life, color
and glamour. Chinatown is a
bit of Oriental life transplanted
to America. The interiors and
structural portions of the build-
ings are modernized American,
but the exteriors still retain
their splendor of balconies, balustrades and pa-
goda-like roofs, so typical of Chinese architec-
ture.
