THE STEAM YACHT MEDEA, here shown sailing under the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, was launched in 1904 as a private luxury yacht. She was used by the French as a sub- chaser in World War I, and carried a barrage balloon in defense against the Luftwaffe in World War II.
