The last of the Old West. Central City was created when a prospector, named John Gregory struck a multi-million dollar gold lode here in 1859. At one time, the population was 40,000 people. When silver market collapsed at end of century, Central City became a ghost town, then in the 1930's the restoration of the old opera House was effected, also the historic Teller House was restored with its Victorian elegance of the early days.
