A stern-wheeler steamboat, its whistle roaring and blowing out steam, plows its way up the Mississippi River under the Mark Twain Memorial Bridge at Hannibal, Missouri. The boat is the type that Mark Twain piloted during his "Life on the Mississippi." This view is from Cardiff Hill; across the river is Illinois is "Bluffs" that bound the river-plain are blue-edged in the far distance; to the right in cloud shadow, is the beginning of "Jackson's Island" of Tom Sawyer Fame.
