Andrew-Safford House, 13 Washington Square, Salem, Mass. Late Federal period house built by John Andrew in 1818 and considered in its day to be the most cost- ly private residence in New England. Pur- chased by John Osborne Safford in the 1870's and acquired by Essex Institute in 1947. Not open to the public.
