DANCING GIRLS, KYOTO, JAPAN
On certain days in the month in different sections
of the city, festivals are held near the temples. Enor-
mous lofty floats of two platforms are erected, set on
wheels and drawn by bullocks. On these floats appear
mummers who dance or make faces for the amuse-
ment of the crowd. With some of the floats a troupe
of graceful dancing girls are hired who dance before
it or on the platform, as occasion may require.
