upon the square bounded by Perry, Monmouth, and Southard
Streets and Clinton Avenue, were established in 1855.
original cost of the buildings and grounds was $ 155,000, now
increased to nearly $ 500,000. In 1890, new buildings were
erected and in 1893 the gymnasium was completed.
