New Jersey - The Nation's Playground - Beat the Depression! By building the Depression palace (The Strangest House int he World). In 1929, George Daynor arrived in Vineland, New Jersey stone broke. He settled on an automobile dump in a mosquito-laden swamp. The ground was worth only one dollar an acre. Working alone and with only his TWO HANDS, he built out of the clay and auto parts a beautiful palace of unusual architecture. It took him 8 years.
