N-35—THE COVERED WAGON PRAIRIE SCHOONER OF THE WEST It was about the middle of the eighteenth century, when the colonial west, namely the Pennsylvania Dutch, produced the Conestoga i Wagon with its sturdily built running gear and canvas-covered, boat-like body. It was the descendant of the marvelous wagon, the Prairie Schooner which made possible a hun- dred years ago, the conquest of the American Far West.
