Log Section on Cars. This picture illustrates how the
log lengths, into which a big tree is cut ere it can be taken
to the mill, are conveyed on special railroad trucks. The
log shown in this picture, when cut up, made more than
40,000 shingles! The loading of these logs on to the
railroad trucks is, in itself, a delicate and dangerous task.
By means of chains the log is drawn up an inclined
pathway formed of dressed logs, and finally landed in place,
when it is secured to the trucks.
