WINTER TRANSPORTATION
TO MACKINAC ISLAND, MICH.
During the winter months when the Straits of Mack-
inac are frozen over, there are several methods of
transportation to the mainland used; dog sled, and
often motor driven sleds, but most usually an g
plane equipped with skiis. Sometimes opera
from Mackinaw City and sometimes from
St.
Ignace, the plane carries mail and supplies as
well as passengers. The plane takes off and lands
on the ice.
They have that
"white stuff" here
too!
