THE CONFEDERATE FLAG
The Confederate Battle Flag was designed by Gen. P. G. T.
Beauregard in September, 1861 to avoid similarity between
the Stars and Bars, and the Stars and Stripes. Thought by
many to be the Flag of the Confederacy, this Battle Flag was
never officially adopted by the CSA Congress, though it was
issued by the War Department to troops. The shape was origi-
nally square, and three sizes were used - Infantry 48" square
-Artillery 36" square - Cavalry 30" square.
