Nieuwland Science Hall houses the chemistry, physics
and mathematics departments of Notre Dame's College
of Science. Included in the building are classrooms, thirty
modern laboratories, and a science library. Dedicated in
October, 1953, the building is named for the late Rev.
Julius A. Nieuwland, C.S.C., the Notre Dame priest-
scientist who developed the basic formula for synthetic
rubber.
