Welcomes visitors to its 1972 Centennial-Bicentennial
celebration! The Casa Peralta, a recent City acquisition for
historical-cultural uses, reminds us of the early Spanish heritage
with its courtyards, colorful tiles and fountains. Modern San G
Leandro is reflected in the fountain of the Civic Center complex
which includes the City Hall, Alameda County Municipal Court
and the Public Safety building. The San. Leandro shoreline
recreation area is reminiscent of the old and the new. Once the
scene of thriving oyster beds and shipping at the turn of the cen-
tury, the 4 1/2 mile area now has become a modern water-
oriented recreation complex with small boat harbor, golf
courses, family parks, riding and hiking trails. Known through
the years as "The Cherry City", "Home of Sunshine and
Flowers", San Leandro perhaps is even more widely known as
"The Friendly City."
