This log cabin was erected in 1820, by Pierre Freischutz, Navarre Pioneer Fur Trader. The First White Man to settle in this community. Council Oak: in Highland Cemetery, LaSalle passed this ancient tree in 1679 on his portage from the St. Joseph River to the Kankakee River. He came here again in 1681 to sign a treaty with the Miami Indians.
