CRYSTAL CAVE
PENNSYLVANIA'S
Greatest Natural Underground Wonder
LOCATED near Kutztown, Berks County, Pennsylvania,
along U. S. R. 222, 17 miles east of Reading, 23 miles west
of Allentown.
DISCOVERED Nov. 21, 1871 by men blasting limestone
rock where the entrance to the cave is now located. Opened
to the public in 1873. Since then increasing thousands of
visitors, near 100,000 annually during the past 15 years,
attest to the abundance and indescribable beauty of the
stalactite, stalagmite, flowstone and crystal formations
which present themselves at every turn. It is a veritable
labyrinth of geological information.
Startling formations present themselves at every turn.
Many of these, such as the Frozen Fountain, the Prairie
Dogs, the Cathedral Chamber, the Crystal Ball Room, the
Totem Pole, and the Indian Head, grotesquely resemble
objects of the outer world.
The natural splendor of this underground palace has
been carefully preserved. Concrete walks, steel railings,
indirect electric illumination extend throughout the tra-
versed portion of the cave. The temperature of the cave
is 56° F.
