JOHN BURNS STATUE.-A scene on Stone Avenue at the
edge of Reynolds' Woods. In the foreground is Pennsylvania's
contribution to the memory of John Burns. He was a citizen
of Gettysburg and a though nearly 70 years of age, shouldered
his rifle and, joining the troops of this portion of the field,
fought with them until the Union forces withdrew.
thrice wounded, but completely recovered and lived for nine
years after. The monuments along the Chambersburg pike and
McPherson barn also show.
