Raton, almost exactly midway between Chicago
and Los Angeles, is an important center of
the cattle industry and is located on the line of
inexhaustable coal deposits which extend un-
broken through this region for 250 miles. Raton
is the site of extensive railroad machine shops and
the headquarters of the Maxwell Land Grant Co.
What is seen of Northern New Mexico belongs
to this great land grant. Raton lies at an altitude
of 6637 feet.
