United States Air Force Museum
The USAF Museum building was dedicated in 1971 by President
Nixon. The world's largest and oldest military aviation museum, it
originated in 1923 at McCook Field at Dayton, OH. The first exhibit
building houses nearly 100 aircraft. This $7 million building was paid
for through public contribution and donated to the USAF by the Air
Force Museum Foundation. A $10.8 million building, housing 50
aircraft, was opened in 1988, funded equally by the Foundation
and the government. The IMAX Theatre addition was completed in
1991, funded through public contribution and the Foundation.
