From 1880-1900 horse
trams of the Derby Tram-
ways Co. Ltd. operated
four principal routes along
Ashbourne, London,
Normanton and Osmaston
roads, nearly five route
miles in all. The system was
municipalised in 1900 and
electrified on 4 ft.-gauge in
1904, with new routes and
extensions in 1905-08.
Eventually eight routes
radiating from the centre of
the town were worked by
74 double-deck cars and
four single-deck cars. The
14 route miles of electric
tramway were replaced by
trolley buses in 1932-34.
