Lick Observatory, astronomical department of the
University of California, on Mt. Hamilton, altitude
4,209 feet, 26 miles by good road from San Jose.
Observatory site comprises 3,120 acres. The 36-
inch and 12-inch equatorial telescopes are a revela-
tion to the visitor, as are the panoramic views
ascending the summit.
