The presses of The Detroit News are 193 feet
2 inches long over all, and the 36 unites are so
synchronized as to be, in reality, one machine.
Their capacity is 648,000 complete 16-page pa-
pers, printed, cut, folded, counted and delivered
to the mailing department every
every hour.
They
consume yearly 325,000 miles of paper of a
standard width of 70 inches, fed to them in a
continuous ribbon from rolls in the basement.
Ink used in the printing amounts to 4,100 pounds
a day. Presses are being constructed which will
increase this printing equipment 25 per cent.
