Founded in 1873 by James Edmund Scripps,
The Detroit News has become one of the fore-
most
newspapers in America, and occupies the
largest as well as the most completely and mod-
ernly equipped newspaper manufactory in the world.
It now occupies a full city block, 300 by 280
feet, and has in addition, a 200-car garage in an
ad joining block across the road. The institutional
character of the newspaper is expressed in its
architecture,
