FRANCISCO FORT
Founded in 1862 by Col. John M. Francisco
In 1861 Col. John Francisco came here from Fort Garland
and said, "This Is Paradise Enough For me." In partnership
with Henry Daigre, land was purchased from Spanish Land
Grant of Virgil and St. Vrain, and the following year the
partners, with Hiram W. Vasques, built the Fort for protection
from the Indians.
This was the home of Col. Francisco until his death forty
years later in 1902.
It is operated as a museum by the HUERFANO COUNTY
HISTORICAL SOCIETY.
