MAIN STREET, VICTORVILLE, CALIFORNIA. This pros-
perous and progressive town had its beginning as
Mojave River Camp, back in 1878 and from that time
until the middle of 1885 was known as Mormon Crossing.
By 1886 mining had become the principle activity of the
community and it was named Victor, and later Victor-
ville. The town today is the trade center of an exten-
sive agricultural district known as the Mojave River Val-
ley. One of the truly inspiring attractions of the Vic-
torville area are its wildflowers. In late April and early
May its desert environs form a dazzling mosaic of rare
