Peoria is the home of the Northern Utili-
zation Research Branch, Agricultural Research
Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture. It
is one of four research laboratories established
by Congress to develop new or improved
uses of farm commodities for foods, feeds,
pharmaceuticals, and industrial products.
Penicillin, corn textile fiber, starch sponge,
medical dextran, are but a few of the products
developed by this Branch.
