FORT JACKSON, SOUTH CAROLINA On Range 10, trainees fire the M-16 rifle for qualification. The M-16 -- the Army's standard rifle - weighs 11½ pounds combat ready, uses 5.56 mm ammunition and can be fired semi- or fully-automatic.
