Vermont State Capitol

The present structure is the third since Montpelier was chosen the Capitol in 1805. The first building was of wood, completed in 1808. The second was built of granite and completed in 1838. It was destroyed by fire in 1857. The present building was completed in 1859. An addition was built on the west side in 1885. The dome is built of wood & covered with gold leaf. The statue on the dome is of cores, Goddess of Agriculture. |
