The Thunder Bird over the mantel piece in the
Indian Building at Albuquerque is one of the most
frequently encountered symbols of Indian mytholo-
gy. It is the symbol of the lightning, the thunder
and the rain, signifying to the primitive people of
the arid Southwest all things beneficent and kind.
