SOLDIERS' MONUMENT AND COM-
MON, WORCESTER, MASS. In 1867 a
popular subscription to build a soldiers'
monument on the Common resulted in
securing the sum of $15,000 which, to-
gether with a grant of $35,000 from the
City Council in 1871, was sufficient to
secure its erection on the Common, on
the opposite end of which is located the
City Hall.
